Amanda Knox's cat, Artemis, comforts Amanda's mother, Arbor Heights resident Edda Mellas. News just came in that one of the convicted murderers of Meredith Kercher, Rudy Guede, may have told his ex-cellmate that Amanda was not involved, which corroborates with a statement in a taped conversation he made to his father a year ago February.

While being interviewed by the West Seattle Herald Friday, March 5, Amanda Knox's stepfather, Chris Mellas, received text messages from family members and an attorney that gave him a happy jolt.
The messages alerted Mellas to a new article just released in Italy's second largest, and widely respected, newspaper, la Repubblica. It said that Rudy Guede, the first person convicted of killing Meredith Kercher, told his former prison cellmate that West Seattle UW student, Amanda Knox and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, also convicted of the murder, were not present at the murder scene. Guede's cellmate claims that Guede told him there was another person with him on the night of the murder.
The cellmate made a formal videotaped statement that has been submitted to the prosecutor's office in Perugia, Italy, where Ms. Kercher's murder took place and where the case was heard.
Chris Mellas' wife, Edda is Amanda's mother. She told the West Seattle Herald, "In January 2008, at Le Capanne Prison, right after he was captured in Germany, Rudy said he was there (at the murder scene) with someone else, but that Amanda and Raffaele were not there. Rudy’s lawyers say he never said it. Not true. The police have a tape recording (…) of Rudy telling this to his dad.
"At that point he had already stated that Amanda and Raffaele were not involved in the murder, before he flip-flopped and pointed the finger at Amanda and Raffaelle. Once he was arrested, every conversation was recorded for months on end. In the conversation with his dad he said there was somebody else there, but 'I can’t tell you who.' It was never brought up (in court.) At that point the prosecution called Rudy a liar, including that conversation. Now there is something else to support it. His ex-cellmate's statement is important. He is still in prison and there is nothing in it for him. He has nothing to gain. He chose to share."
The Mellas's believe this will greatly assist Amanda's attorneys with her appeal process that begins in about two weeks. They also believe that the 427-page "motivation" issued Thursday, March 4, is filled with contradictions. The report explains the judges' reasoning behind the decision for the Dec. 4 conviction of Knox and Sollecito.
"Our lawyers have started going through it page by page and they tell us it includes lots of contradictions," said Edda. "In the document the judges state that Amanda is a great kid, a hard working student with no evidence of violence in her past, until one night she decided to kill her roommate. In trying to justify the knife (as evidence) they said there was 'definitely a second knife belonging to Raffaele.' But the 'alternative knife' was never brought up in court. Raffaele’s two little penknives were tested and found negative for anything. It’s ludicrous.
"This is the summary that the judges wrote up," Edda said. "It is trying to justify the wrongful conviction of two innocent people. Because it's in Italian Amanda is also working on translating it. Her lawyers are thrilled. All of this is reason, and good grounds, for appeal."
“This report reads like a fiction novel,” said Chris Mellas the day after receiving the text message. “This was expected. Simply put, much of what is discussed in the report is not based in court-covered fact.
"For example, Judge (Giancarlo) Massei states that the wound just below Meredith’s chin was made by Raffaele’s knife. This was never discussed in court. No expert ever said this. No such knife was ever produced or said to have been missing or anything even hinting that this could be a possibility. Where did he get this? Why did he feel the need to create a completely new theory? How does he make the jump from court-covered fact, which is allowed, to the completely new and unfounded? Why did he make things up?
“In the end, it is good for us and we are happy because it is not based in court fact," Chris said. "This makes it easier for us at the appeal. Had the report been based in court fact, the judges would have been writing the reasoning for exoneration.”
Amanda Knox may face the court again for her appeal as early as this coming fall, which will again be heard in Perugia.

If Rudy and his mystery friend forced their way in when Meredith opened the door, who broke the window then? I thought the defense was saying Rudy entered through the window. Somebody else must have broken the window and staged the burglary. And somebody else also moved the body and undressed Meredith much later in the evening.

It's only a matter of time, not too long in the future, that it will be revealed that Amanda Know was NOT in italy on 1 November 2007.

Danger of Stereotyping
Amanda Knox was found guilty of a murder she didn't commit because a couple of old, ugly Italian men, Mignini the Prosecutor and Judge Massei totally bought into the stereotyping of American College Girls as promiscuous, drugged out sluts. They never looked at Amanda Knox, the defendant, as a real person They convicted a stereotype, 'Foxy-Knoxy' created by the British and Italian tabloids. Discovering that Amanda had a vibrator, condoms, and admitted using pot served only to confirm their prejudice against her as a promiscuous American College Girl. This is why the lack of physical evidence and the prosecution's arguments not fitting the evidence didn't bother the court. It resembles nothing else as closely as a lynching of a stereotypical Black rapist in the American South carried out by a lawfully constituted court.

The Knox/Mellas family thinks the word of a child killer (a child not even two years old yet) is going to get their murdering daughter off the hook? That's precious. Really. How much did Sollecito's family offer this guy? How cushy could life be made for him in prison to just "say the right thing"? Though I'm not sure they believe she is innocent, they just want her let go because they have a thing for Melissa Gilbert lookalikes. There's somebody for everyone.

I feel so sorry for those of you who are so filled with hate for Amanda that you're willing to let her rot in prison for something she might not have done. What if there really was a second person besides Guede? Do you hate her so much you don't care? You don't want to find out the truth? I suppose you believe the story from the prosecutor that Amanda and Raff went to the crime scene and cleaned up their own DNA and left only his. I think you need to listen to both sides of the story instead of just the hate filled side. There is NO DNA from Amanda in the bedroom. If she did it, how is that possible? ? ? ? ? Historical Parallels
Perhaps it would help to look at historical parallels to what the prosecution and "Judge" Massei allege.
I would like to see somebody name one crime in history that compares to what Mignini and Massei think happened. Two intelligent attractive young women in their prime and one of them shows up with an unemployed local thug who she did not know personally and has him sexually assault and kill the other. Did not happen period.
Sexually motivated homicides are almost always committed by troubled males acting alone. In those rare cases where there is female participation, the man is a skilled manipulator and the woman is an empty shell.
The DNA of Rudy Guede was found in areas indicating sexual penetration of the victim. The American girl didn't put it there.

I am supposed to go to Italy with my husband. It is just that his parents are from there and France as well. I feel creepy when I am there though because I have noticed a tinge of anti-Americanism in Italy. I had not noticed that on the French side of the family. They seem to be more interested in asking what Americans think instead of telling them what they think. I am almost too creeped out to go to Italy this time. I think I will send my husband alone to see his parents, though I love them. My husband says this case is an outrage. The Italian judicial system is a pack of lies.

I'll think about that and you think about why Amanda's DNA was mixed to FIVE splashes of Meredith's blood, why her DNA was on the handle of one of the knives used to murder Meredith, found at the boyfriend's flat where Meredith had never been, why footprints of Amanda and RS were found in the blood that do NOT macth Guede's, why Guede would stage a breaking but leave his faeces unflushed, why Guede would use two knives in a frenzied attack, whilst holding Meredith's arms so she couldn't fight back and get any of his DNA under her fingers . .

CSI isn't true - you don't leave DNA walking into a room, or even walking into a room and stabbing someone, DNA isn't transferred like magic. no one is saying Amanda raped Meredith and left semen. there's is NOT a huge amount of Guede's DNA at the crime scene - semen and 3 or 4 other finds, but no one doubts he was there, and he raped Mereidith. There was a washing machine load of Meredith's clothes that had been put on post murder by the murderer. the assumption of the jury - and yes, it is in the report, it was discussed in court - was that some of the clothes Meredith was wearing at the start of that attack ended up in the washing machine. that is where any DNA iwas

What if she is guilty?
I have been following the case since I first read about the discovery of the body at that time not yet identified in the media.
I read the pro and con arguments and have concluded that Amanda Knox is guilty.
My own conclusion is also supported by the fact that the jury and judges also arrived at the same conclusion independently of my conclusion.
I consider the publicity the murderess and her relatives and ex lovers receive highly inappropriate.

Your understanding of the case is flawed.
Amanda's DNA was mixed with Meredith's blood because it was already there. She lived there.
Meredith's DNA was not on the "knife" the scientific testing was not valid for a sample that small and it tested negative for blood.
Footprints of Amanda were not found in the victim's blood.
There was no stanged break-in. Guede participated in a similar break-in on 13-Oct-07. Broken window, second floor etc.
Lack of material under Meredith's fingernails does not prove that multiple attackers participated. Guede had a knife and he knew how to use it. As a basketball player he was physically powerful and he had a history of fights.
Not a huge amount of Guede's DNA at crime scene? Sorry there is.
Washing Maching claims were not presented at trial. All the police would have to do is examine the drain pipes if they thought blood or other evidence was being destroyed. Police throughout the world do this. Not clear that the clothes weren't put there by Meredith and somebody else re-turned on the machine because of an incomplete spin cycle or other malfunction.
Bottom line. Let's see another crime in history similar to what is alleged here.
The Truth Will Come Out Soon
The cracks in this big lie are now becoming obvious. The court's ruling is laughable. It contains findings for which no evidence was presented. At least in America,
a court cannot make conclusions without evidence. Now we find out that in Italy convictions can be based on findings that are merely theories for which evidence was not actually presented in court. Then there are these repeated statements of Guede (in 2007, 2008 and now to Alessi) that Amanda and Raffaele were not there that night. A high school kid could do a better job than this Italian criminal justice system. It is time for Mrs. Clinton or the President to get involved.
Fear Italy
I agree with the person above who said she will not be going to Italy for a visit. My family has visited all over Europe and never had a problem. Italy was next on our list, but after seeing what has gone on with this Knox case I would be too afraid to allow my family to travel there. We will instead boycott Italy.

Why were there now finger prints of the murderess in her own room, in the bathroom and the rest of the house except for one on a glass (beverage glass)?

There is nothing complicated about this case if you just take the blinders off. I cite the cases of Nathaniel White, Michael Ross, Ted Bundy and the hundreds of know serial killers studied by criminal profilers. Virtually all of them are troubled males acting alone. Rudy got caught the first time as far as we know.

Cultiral Differences
One of the judges, on the last day of the trial, accused Knox of lying about returning to the house in the morning of November 2. Knox replied that she wanted to shower and wash her hair. The judge had never known anyone who would actually wash her hair every day.
Now try to imagine a 40 hour interrogation without a translator! Do you think there could have been something lost in translation?

The only people who will enjoy an economic benefit from the conviction of Knox, and especially of Sollecito, are the Kirchers. I know that they are putting on a dignified front but they still have a money-grubbing lawyer (sorry if that is redundant) running around protecting the conviction of the only two people in the case with enough capacity to make the Kircher's rich. The Kirchers fought for and won a milti-million euro judgment against anyone convicted in their daughters dreadful death. The lawyer is still on the payroll.
The father, John, is already writing about his younger daughter's the tragic situation and is being paid as a free lance writer.
Incidentally, Knox and Sollicito will owe the Italian government for the cost of their incarceration in an Italian prison. "Say, if I am paying for this stay, could I get a room with a view?"

I read the 427 page court report of the trial. There is just no way that Amanda Marie Knox was not involved in the killing of Meredith Kercher.

When I mentioned on Monica Guzman's article that I will not be donating to the Amanda Marie Knox defense fund as I am absolutely not convinced that the key guilt indicators against Amanda Marie Knox where indicative of innocence, my post was deleted from Monica Guzman's blog.
Monica Guzman is all for freedom of speech and if you come to a different conclusion than her, she deletes your post.
I certainly can not call Monica Guzman a young bright journalist.
I would like to see justice done, and that means that murderers or in this case the convicted murderess Amanda Marie Knox, is held accountable for their
Tragedies
John Kercher has every right to write about his daughter's tragic death and to be paid for it.
Italian law is not wrong to award financial damages to the victims of crimes. US law does the same. The issue is of course that the court convicted two innocent young people of the crime.
The Knox family has repeatedly said that their tragedy is not comparable to the Kercher's.
The PR campaign is legitimate. This is how democracies respond to kangaroo courts.
They convicted the right people
Without any doubt what so ever the Italian court got it right when they convicted the murder trio.
How many web sites has clan registered it must be close to 20 sites all regurgitating the same false information.
To the readers who want to know the fact, read the judges report and the propaganda in favor of the convicted murderers.
If Knox were innocent, then she would not have cleaned up the murder scene especially considering that her flat mates complained about Knox's hygiene habits.
I have complete faith in the Italian justice system.
In this case they got the guilty ones.
I would not want another OJ Simpson rerun.
In most likelihood she will have her conviction confirmed by both appeals.
I am looking forward to the appeals.
What I find particularly odious is that the Knox's seem to think that they are some kind of media stars.
They are no stars by any measure.
They are the parents of a brutal sex offender and killer.
Good parents don't let their kids murder their roomies.

Of course I could be wrong; I do not recall a murder suspect family approaching a PR firm before during and after a murder trial and even if Miss Knox supporters cannot or do not accept the verdict at least she has a further 2 attempts in various “kangaroo” courts to try and overturn her conviction for murder.
I would also say this PR firm or a PR campaign which appears to US based cannot have any impact whatsoever on the judicial process in another sovereign country.
This isn’t American Idol the public do not get a chance to vote on the outcome and as such the PR campaign is pointless.
