West Seattle resident & KC Exec. Dow Constantine honored the Filipino-American community in Seward Park today. Their cultural fair, "Pista Sa Nayon", sanction by Seafair, runs until 8:00 p.m. by the park's amphitheater. Pictured below is halo halo, a traditional Filipino dessert, halo halo, a "mixture" of sweet preserves, coconut meat (macapuno), jackfruit (langka), pounded dried rice (pinipig), & other ingredients filled with crushed ice, milk (or coconut milk) and topped with ice cream.

Several Seafaiir-sanctioned events have taken place this weekend, and West Seattle resident and King County Executive Dow Constantine appeared today at the Filipino Seafair party at the Seward Park Amphitheater. This 23rd annual event is called "Pista sa Nayon" or "Festival in the Village". Traditional dancing and singing is performed on stage through 8:00 p.m.

Because of the heat, many stirred and sipped the traditional Filipino dessert, halo halo, a "mixture" of sweet preserved beans(red beans, chick peas), coconut meat (macapuno), jackfruit (langka), pounded dried rice (pinipig), sweet yam (ube), cream flan (leche flan), shreds of sweetened plantain (saba), filled with crushed ice, milk (or coconut milk) and topped with ice cream.

"Since 1990 this festival has grown and grown," Constantine told the crowd. "There are now nearly 100,000 Filipino-Americans in King County. As we move foreword, as Dr. Martin Luther King County grows, I know the Filipino-American community will be a great part of helping to insure that we live up to the ideals that Dr. King set forth for us, that this nation will live up to its ideals, that every person is able to participate and every person is able to succeed. Congratulations on another wonderful and sunny, successful Pista."
