Sanhica Washington named as new Principal at Roxhill Elementary School
Public invited to meet her at Back to School BBQ on Aug. 30
Seattle Public Schools Superintendent José Banda has named Sanhica Washington as the new principal for Roxhill Elementary School, replacing the recently promoted Carmela Dellino. Dellino was named as Executive Director for Seattle Public Schools West Seattle Region last month. Dellino leaves the school in great shape having coordinated and overseen the recent T-Mobile makeover at the school.
Banda shared the news with the Roxhill Community in a public letter.
Dear Roxhill Elementary community,
I am excited today to announce the appointment of Sahnica Washington as your new principal.
Ms. Washington has been with Seattle Public Schools since 1998, and she comes to Roxhill after serving as a STAR mentor for the past four years. She is deeply committed to helping all students excel by encouraging them to work to their highest potential. She will be a great fit for Roxhill Elementary community.
Sahnica Washington is familiar to many Roxhill families from her time as principal intern in the 2010-2011 school year. She is excited to return as principal and looks forward to continuing to work with the students, families and staff at Roxhill. Previously, Ms. Washington was the Summer Semester manager in 2010, and she was the Summer Semester principal at Roxhill in 2007 and 2008. She has also served as an elementary school teacher at Fairmount Park, Rainier View and Emerson elementary schools. Sahnica Washington began her career in education as an instructor assistant at T.T. Minor Elementary.
Ms. Washington earned a Masters degree in teaching and a Bachelor of Arts in liberal studies with a minor in social work at Seattle University. She holds a Washington State Administration certificate.
She was selected after a hiring process that included input from families and staff. The selection team was impressed by Ms. Washington’s experience with and dedication to the Roxhill community. They also commented on her demonstrated knowledge and skills as an instructional leader, and her commitment to working to ensure family engagement. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Washington to Roxhill Elementary. You can meet your new principal and the rest of the staff, plus other Roxhill families, at the Back-to-School barbecue on August 30, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. It will be held at Roxhill Elementary.
Please also join me in thanking your previous principal, Carmela Dellino, who accepted a promotion to Executive Director of Schools for the Southwest Region, which includes Roxhill. She looks forward to watching the continued progress of Roxhill students and celebrating the successes that lie ahead.
