Police Blotter Week of 11-19-12

Gas station ruckus
Two men in their 40s were causing trouble at two gas stations on the 7100 block of Delridge Way S.W. on Nov. 8. After a clerk at the Shell station called 911 to report two males were causing a disturbance in his shop, the two men walked across the street to the AM/PM. They both went into the single person bathroom, prompting the AM/PM clerk to knock on the door and tell them to leave. According to the police report, the white male suspect started yelling at the clerk to “speak English.” The clerk reported he came out of the bathroom and grabbed him by the chest, then pulled out a small baton and swung, but missed. The clerk went behind his counter, pulled out a baseball bat and called 911. When police arrived, both the bat and baton were cocked and ready. The baton-wielder was arrested for suspicion of assault and had a bottle of pills he claimed to have found on the ground. None of them were controlled substances.

Bike theft leads to brawl
On Nov. 12 around 4 p.m. a teen was waiting outside a Westwood Village store on his bicycle and holding his friends bike up while he went inside. He was suddenly approached by another teen who demanded the friend’s bike, then hit the victim in the arm and took off with a group of friends who were all wearing “skinny jeans.” The teen who lost his bike called his father. When father arrived, he told police he was taking the kids and they were going to look for the bike. Police asked him to call 911 if he spotted the teens instead of confronting them. Dad said he would call after he “pinned them to the ground.” A little while later they found the teens and the stolen bike and an all out fight broke out near the corner of Delridge Way S.W. and S.W. Barton. One of the skinny-jeaned teens suffered a serious laceration to his head, and the father reinjured an old ankle injury. The other suspects fled, but the bike was recovered. It was unclear at the time whether the injured teen was directly responsible for the bike theft as he refused to talk.
