The tour boat, Victoria Clipper was seen adrift in Elliott Bay Sunday morning with a suspicious person aboard. Seattle Police responded and were taking measures to secure the boat and investigate the circumstances.

UPDATE 2 11:45am

According to Seattle Police the Victoria Clipper passenger ferry was discovered 300 yards out from Pier 69 on the Seattle waterfront around 7 AM, and appeared to be adrift.

A tugboat was dispatched to bring it back to the dock but the crew discovered there was a man on board and called authorities.

Units from Seattle Police, the US Coast Guard and others responded to the call and
once out on the water, negotiators made contact with the suspect and, after some time a tactical team boarded the vessel made an arrest.

The man told police he had planned to take the boat to West Seattle.

The suspect has been booked into the King County Jail charges and the Clipper has been towed back to the dock.

Police are still investigating how the man was able to commandeer the ship.

The suspect aboard the Victoria Clipper has been taken into custody by Seattle Police according to their Twitter feed. The suspect reportedly told police he took the boat because he "wanted to go to West Seattle."

Our news partner Q13 Fox is reporting that Seattle Police and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to Elliott Bay after reports that the Victoria Clipper, a tour boat, was reported adrift, with a suspicious person aboard.

Q13Fox said that Seattle Police spokesman Sean Whitcom said that they’re working on a plan to get the unauthorized person off the ship. Seattle Police said they are now in contact with the man aboard the ship. Seattle Harbor Patrol units and the Seattle Police Bomb squad have responded.

The Clipper was scheduled to depart from Pier 69 at 8a.m. en route to Seattle. A Coast Guard spokesman told Q13Fox that Clipper Tours called to report that the Victoria Clipper was “underway” but that the captain and crew were not aboard. Currently the Tug Andrew Foss is assisting and is secured to the Victoria Clipper.
