Seattle Police Lieutenant Pierre Davis said, " As far as we can tell there was a large scale party going on in the 9200 block of 16th Ave. S.W. It was a shots fired type of call. When we got here we were told there was a man down. When the officers got here they rendered first aid and life saving techniques to the individual and got him to where they could get him safe. There was still a large melee that was going on outside, and several people were outside as well. Once our officers ascertained what was going on we cleared the houses and made sure the scene was safe so we could make entry for any suspect identification but there was very little we could tell at this time."

There is an active search for the suspect. It is unknown what lead up to shooting.

Lieutenant Davis said that only one person was shot, but we spoke to Sham Merrelle Johnson the aunt of whom she said was an incidental victim. The party was being held at her niece's home.

She said, " I was in the kitchen with my gentleman friend and all of a sudden we heard shots and everybody started rushing in there and I didn't know what was going on. Apparently my niece had gotten shot and everybody scattered at that point."

Johnson said that "A stray bullet had hit her" though the extent of her injuries was not clear and the police have not confirmed the woman in question was injured in this incident.

Police said they are still interviewing witnesses but were not clear on why the man was shot. They also have varying descriptions of the gunman so until they resolve these differences information remains sketchy.
