Apparent suicide victim found by students near Lincoln Park BBQ

By Paul Moseley

The body of apparent suicide victim was found at Lincoln park Monday night. The man, appearing to be in his mid to late 20's, was found hanging in a wooded area on the west side of the Lincoln Park baseball field. He was first noticed by a group of students from Holy Rosary School who were attending an end-of-season track and field celebration. The students, thinking the body may be a prank, notified their coaches.

Holy Rosary Track coach Ralph Pooler followed the students to the site. 'It was hard to find and hard to see in a wooded area by a maintenance shed. I first thought it was a dummy. The more I looked at it the more I was convinced it was real and I decided to call 911.' Coach Pooler and other coaches then blocked the area until authorities arrived.

Seattle Police, Ambulance and Fire responded. Seattle police determined the victim had been deceased 'for a while' and sealed the area for the medical examiner to investigate.

Coaches, parents and students gathered for a brief prayer for the victim before they left the park.
