Balorico Dance at Kenyon Hall
7904 35th Ave SW Mondays 6:30pm
Ballroom & Latin dance lesson $15/ $25 duets
Kenyon Hall is at 7904 35th Ave SW, at Kenyon Junction, in good old West Seattle.
August at Kenyon Hall truly has something for everyone. We begin with the beloved Hungarian folk troupe Dűvő, and end with legendary guitarist Jack Williams. In between, we have classic Boogie-Woogie with Arthur Migliazza and Daryl Davis; Kings of Mongrel Folk Orville Johnson & Mark Graham with Pop Wagner; elusive mentalist Scotty Walsh headlining an Old Time Vaudeville Show; and an entire guitar-filled day and evening with West Seattle performer/composer Don McGreevy.
Saturday August 1 at 7:30 - Dűvő Hungarian Folk Troupe
These seven colorful international artists will be in residence on Raft Island, and have agreed to return to Kenyon Hall for a night of playing, singing, and dancing. To get a taste of their joyful, vigorous style, please visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YGoj_uQ_-A&list=PLBCE7A66A0F0345C7&index=4.
Sunday August 2 at 7:30 - Boogie-Woogie with Arthur Migliazza and Daryl Davis
To celebrate his last West Seattle performance before moving to New York, Arthur has invited Boogie-Woogie legend Daryl Davis to join him in tearing apart our Chickering grand. Mr. Davis has worked with such luminaries as Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Platters, The Drifters, The Coasters, Bo Diddley, Percy Sledge, and Sam Moore. He and Arthur are close friends, and he agreed to perform at Kenyon Hall at Arthur's invitation. Please visit arthurmigliazza.com and daryldavis.com for more information.
Friday August 7 at 7:30 - The Kings of Mongrel Folk with special guest Pop Wagner
Hall favorites Orville Johnson and Mark Graham hook up with Pop Wagner to highlight the audacity of their humor, puffery, and tomfoolery. Please visit mongrelfolk.com and popwagner.com for more information.
Friday August 14 at 3:00 - Course-Tuned Guitar Workshop with Sulphuric Symphony's Don McGreevy
Course tuning is one of many experiments that can be conducted using guitars, pianos, or any other stringed instrument, to facilitate improvisation. Course tuning is when a stringed instrument is tuned to a single note in one or more octaves. When used in an ensemble with each payer fretting a different note, polyphony (independent tones in harmony) is achieved. This workshop will give students the opportunity to first watch and listen to several small performances using a small ensemble of players from the Sulphuric Symphony, then to participate in a question-and-answer period, followed by hands-on experimentation with the specially tuned guitars.
Friday August 14 at 7:30 - Don McGreevy's Sulphuric Symphonette with Dylan Carlson
This preview performance is a dress rehearsal of smaller movements using the same composition method and course-tuning system as The Temporal Nature of Stability, a larger piece composed by McGreevy to be performed this winter. Special guest Dylan Carlson of Earth will play an opening solo set. The Sulphuric Symphony and Symphonette is made possible with the help of Seattle's Office of Arts and Culture and independent donors via GoFundMe.
Tuesday August 25 at 7:30 - Mentalist Scotty Walsh headlines an Old-fashioned Vaudeville Revue
Years ago, peripatetic Vaudevillian Scotty Walsh graced our stage with his off-beat comedy magic, then vanished. Thankfully, he recently reappeared, and will headline our August Vaudeville Revue, featuring Bob White accompanying a silent comedy on the Mighty Wurlitzer. Please visit scottywalsh.com to become completely bamboozled.
Sunday August 30 at 7:30 - Legendary guitarist Jack Williams returns to Kenyon
When you hear him at Kenyon Hall, you'll discover why Peter Yarrow, of Peter, Paul and Mary, says "Jack is the best guitar player I've ever heard." For more information, please visit jackwilliamsmusic.com.
For shows August 1, 2, 7, and 25, reserved table seats are $14. Row seating is $12 general and $10 seniors. With a reservation, row seating is only $10 general and $8 seniors. Elementary, middle & high school students are $5. Pre-school children are free.
For the workshop August 14 at 3 there is no admission charge.
For the performance August 14 at 7:30, tickets are $10 general. No table seats for this performance.
For the performance August 30, tickets are $18 general and $16 seniors and students. No table seats for this performance.
To make a reservation, please e-mail email@example.com with your request. You'll receive an e-mail confirming your reservation. For complete program information, please visit www.kenyonhall.org. Kenyon Hall is at 7904 35th Ave SW, at Kenyon Junction, in good old West Seattle.
