McDermott gets Olympia leadership post

Friday, February 16, 2007

The state House Democratic caucus elected Rep. Joe McDermott (D-West Seattle) to join their Leadership team as Caucus Education Policy Leader.

"I am honored to receive this new leadership responsibility," McDermott said. "It gives me the opportunity to coordinate efforts and keep our education agenda moving as we deliver results."

Rep. McDermott was elected in 2000 and has extensive experience on education issues. This year he holds seats on the Appropriations, the Education, and the State Government & Tribal Affairs Committees. He is also a member of the Appropriations subcommittee on Education.

"I look forward to working with Rep. McDermott to address the challenges facing our schools. In this leadership role, the Democrats in the House will be well served by his shared commitment to make real changes and investments in education," said Governor Chris Gregoire, who has made quality education the top priority of her administration.
