Bivins fills in at West Seattle High

Seattle Public Schools has appointed Bruce Bivins to be West Seattle High's interim principal for the rest of the school year.

Bivins was formerly assistant principal at Franklin High School.

West Seattle High's principal of two years, Susan DersŽ, had been on medical leave since mid-September and announced earlier this month that she would not be returning to the school. She opted to take a lesser role in the school system due to health and stress issues.

DersŽ is now assistant principal at Roosevelt High.

Retired Seattle School District principal, Judy Peterson had filled in for DersŽ since September and her last day at the school was Feb. 16.

A permanent replacement for probably won't be appointed until July, according to the district.
