" "Alan Justad, spokesman for the Seattle Department of Planning and Development, said segmented permitting is normal practice for developers."
It is "normal practice" for car thieves to steal cars as well, but that doesn't make it legal, and it doesn't make it right. By rewarding sleazy and illegal development, the city is making a philosophical statement to all of us: communities don't matter.
The fact that the Nickels administration needs a spokesman to front excuses for what happened here should give us a clue to just how disconnected it has become with our communities. "

" Since being in the neighborhood I have noticed that the strip of land between the building site and Orchard Street has been a well-used parking area for many neighbors. What is the status of this parking (currently posted as no parking for construction) in the future? Based upon many years of using it for public parking for the neighborhood, can it continue as such?
I for one think that the overall building of residences is a good thing. The multiple family sites has invigorated this part of town. We are seeing more neighbors walking and interacting with one another. I have lived here for about 2 years and it is a wonderful place to live. All of Seattle is becoming more urban, and I think that it makes since to build compact housing to meet the needs of many new residents. To be sure, this development has cleaned up the eyesore of the previously overgrown lot and dilapedated, abandoned building. However, It is a shame that the development may have been constructed in a less than transparent way "

" So what can be done about this? I am concerned also with the influx of people (and cars) without the necessary accommodations for the increase in traffic? And please don't say use the bus. "

" Soleil is performing the same acts in my neighborhood, the Delridge Way area. On the surface Soleil, is filing for the permits on a multitude of properties. However, that company is not the final builder in our area. Soleil appears to be the front for permit filing for other contractors because he have a link with the City of Seattle. Soleil is entering property purchase transactions, filing for the permits and then flipping the property to other contractors. Effectively, Soleil is operating as a property broker for the myriad of contractors that are actually doing the building. I suggest these business practices be investigated with the Department of Labor and Industry, Real Estate License Commission, King County Recorders/Assessor Office, Attorney General, Department of Finance and the King County Superior Court for lawsuits related to Soleil to verify the credibility of his integrity Soleil/ Mr. Daniel Duffus/ Mrs. Michelle Duffus, AKA Michelle L. Hanes. "

" Sadly, with the Mayor behind it as far as I am told by his people, this will keep happening until all available zoned land is turned into multi family use. I guess then, they can change zoning laws and make this area even more congested. I asked how they were going to account for an influx of people with arterials like CA Ave that cannot be widened and they had no answer. Look for your utilities to go up and restaurants you like to be torn down like Guadalajara .. pretty soon there will just be condos along CA Aves 2 mile stretch and what will traffic be like then!? "
