Tuesday, July 08, 2008

Construction on Hiawatha Playfield will be delayed for several months as the city parks people and Seattle Public Schools finalize the an agreement that establishes the terms of a $1 million contribution from Seattle Public Schools.

Approval is needed from the Seattle School Board, who will vote on the issue in August. Upon approval, the Parks Department will advertise immediately for bids.

Construction is scheduled to start in October and the renovation is slated to be complete next March.

The funding, from the parks major maintenance funds, Seattle School District, and King County, provides $3.6 million for planning, design, and construction of the sports field improvements.
