Thank you Lisa

Thursday, August 28, 2008

It was with great sadness that I made my last visit to Caper's, California Avenue - Alaska Junction - to pick up the dated baked goods.

Lisa, Caper's manager, told me that while Caper's continues, the cafˇ had closed and that there would no longer be pecan rolls, cookies, crescents, bread and the other delicious baked items that I have seen over the years. Caper's, Sorrel's back in the early '90s, has most generously donated baked goods to the Compass Center, a downtown mission for homeless people. It began when Erin Alford, a student at Lutheran High and a server at Sorrel's, the previous site, asked if there was a need for baked goods at the mission.

The donations continued from Caper's for approximately 18 years to the mission. It began with a small package of items once a week. Donations increased to huge sacks of baked goods at least twice a week. Thanks goes to Lisa, the Caper's lady, who gave so generously and cheerfully. Thank you, Lisa, from all who were blessed by your caring and sharing. Thank you for the great example of generosity you have been to so many.
