American Legion Grand Parade Proves to be Perennial Fun

Monday, October 06, 2008

The American Legion Grand Parade was a big hit in West Seattle on Saturday July 19th as usual. Throngs of parade watchers lined California Avenue to see more than 70 entries pass by. 1st Place float went to Port Orchard who put over 3000 hours into it's construction. Marysville took second place. Entries came from Vancouver and as far away as Calgary, Alberta Canada to be part of the event.

The parade was staged in the Admiral District where the floats, people and animal entries got ready.

12 Herald carriers out of our 300 strong corps represented the newspaper.

After about a half hour delay, the parade finally got underway. The Grand Parade at 11:30 was preceded by the Kiddies Parade at 10 which took place closer to the Junction.
