Saxophonist Steve Griggs leads a fascination program of stories and music inspired by the unjust treatment of Japanese Americans during WWII.
With: Jay Thomas, trumpet; Phil Sparks, bass; Susan Pascal, vibes; and Milo Petersen, guitar. Part of the "Music with a Heart" concert series supporting the West Seattle Helpline. Refreshments and desserts served. Suggest free will offering $15-20 at the door.

Duwamish Forest Restoration Day--Free

10am--Restoring West Seattle’s Green Belt—Steve Richmond, Garden Cycles and Nancy Sackman, Duwamish Tribe.

11am--Native Plants and Urban Forest Stewardship- Judy Blanco of Forterra.

Noon—Lunch Break—Soup and snacks provided.

1-3pm--Birds and Mammals of the Duwamish. Talk at the Longhouse followed by walk along the Duwamish River with a Seattle Park’s Department Volunteer Naturalist.

This year, the Duwamish Longhouse is reforesting the hillside behind the Longhouse and Seattle Park’s Department is restoring 40 acres in the West Seattle Green Belt.

West Seattle Wide meeting: Seattle Housing Levy

Mayor Murray has proposed to replace and expand the Seattle Housing Levy, which is expiring at the end of the year. This local investment has successfully created and preserved over 12,500 affordable homes throughout the city in the last 35 years. Join City staff and your neighbors to learn about the Housing Levy and share your thoughts.

Joe McDermott addresses ‘My West Seattle’ at SWSHS Annual Meeting

King County Council member Joe McDermott, who serves on our Advisory Council, will be the speaker at our Annual Meeting, set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, at the High Point branch of Seattle Public Library, 3411 SW Raymond St.

Joe will speak on “My West Seattle Through the Years.” A former state representative, Joe grew up in West Seattle and has a strong interest in history. One of his earliest jobs was as a guide for the Seattle Underground Tour.  read more »

No Thanksgiving dinner is complete without some Turkey!

To help spread some holiday cheer to local families in need, the West Seattle Food Bank needs your help.

Stop by HomeStreet Bank and donate a frozen Turkey or cash/check ($15 suggested) to support others this holiday season.

Participating merchants at Westwood Village, 2600 SW Barton are inviting the whole community to join in the fun of their Annual Trick or Treat on Saturday Oct. 31 from 5pm to 7pm

WEST SEATTLE HARVEST FESTIVAL

A Fall celebration in the West Seattle Junction from 10a.m. to 2 p.m. California Avenue SW will be closed between SW Edmonds and SW Oregon Streets from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. About 500 people are expected to attend.
