"Telling Our Westside Stories" Interviews

The Southwest Seattle Historical Society continues the interactive youth and elders interviews for the coming "Telling Our Westside Stories" exhibit. The last of the interviews are being held at Madison Middle School Thursday, Nov. 17th, from 8 a.m. to 9:30, including Greg Nickels at 9 a.m. the "Telling Our Westside Stories exhibit is slated to open next spring in the Log House Museum.

Roxhill Park Improvement meeting - Skatespot design updates - Nov. 14

The next to last meeting on improvements being made to Roxhill Park is happening Nov. 14. This meeting, being held at the Southwest Branch of the Seattle Public Library at 9010 35th Ave. S.W will cover updates made thus far to the Skatespot elements of the plan.

The meeting starts at 6:30 PM in the upstairs meeting room.

West Seattle Lions Destination Reading @ West Seattle Elementary

The West Seattle Lions Club is sponsoring an event called Destination Reading taking place at West Seattle Elementary School 6760 34th Ave. s.w. from 10 am to 2 pm.

Destination Reading is a powerful early literacy and adolescent literacy program that correlates to state standards, and includes an explicit instructional pathway with frequent assessments to help guide individualized, data-driven instruction.

Unity Village Grand Opening Ceremonies

Unity Village, White Center, on the corner of SW 100th Street and 13th Avenue SW

The grand opening celebration will feature a tour of the project and remarks from King County Executive Dow Constantine, King County Council Member Joe McDermott and Burien Mayor Joan McGilton, along with other officials from the State of Washington, King County, White Center, Seattle and Burien. We will have local food and treats for attendees, and live music from White Center musicians.  read more »

Colman Pool opening June 30

Colman will open late in 2012 due to a major construction project that has some summer work required to complete. The capital project will begin in winter and run until June 29. The pool will open to the public on Saturday, June 30 which is 5 weeks later than usual. The pool traditionally opens on Memorial Day weekend.

This capital project is a major investment in the future of Colman Pool… after 70 years the deck will be replaced and the entire gutter system redesigned. In addition, an underwater leak will be repaired and new plaster liner installed.
