Police Meeting Tonight, focusing on CPTED: Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design
Tonight, February 13th at 7:00 at HPIC on 12th and Holden. Please join us to discuss the neighborhood with the police, how we can be more empowered, how we can help ourselves improve our part of the neighborhood, and how we can help the police help us.

The presentation will be about 45 minutes, followed by your questions and discussion. Officer Kiehn will stay as long as he needs to in an effort to answer all your questions and speak to your concerns.

Walking train protest against coal at Golden Gardens

What: People from Ballard and beyond will be protesting the proposed coal train terminal near Bellingham. At 11:30 a.m., a 30-minute rally will take place in the northern end of Golden Gardens Park at one of the two shelters. It will feature speakers, including Mayor Mike McGinn. Organizers say there will be plenty of red balloons to make them easy to spot.

Then, protestors will form a “walking train against coal trains,” starting at Golden Gardens and going along the Burke Gilman trail about a mile down to Ray's Boathouse.  read more »

A wake for West Seattle resident, Seafair pirate, sailor and friend Jerry Ceis will be held at the American Legion Hall on February 24 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm.

Work party at Ballard Corners Park

What: Will primarily be spreading a wood chip mulch and and preparing the plants for spring. Many hands make light (and lighthearted!) work! We look forward to seeing you there. Some tools and refreshments will be provided. If you have your own gloves, wheel barrows, and pruners please bring them. No RSVP required.

Public meeting on roadside rain gardens at Sunset Hill Community Club

What: Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) invites Ballard residents to an open house about using natural drainage systems to help prevent sewage overflows into Salmon Bay. Ask questions, gather information, and talk to project staff. Find out what the recent soil borings indicate and provide your input about next steps.

Benefit for injured bartender at King's Hardware

What: Bartender Farah Clinch, a King's staple on Saturdays and Sundays, has been injured, out of work for over a month and needs help paying medical bills. On Sunday, starting at 8 p.m., 100 percent of proceeds on select items will go toward helping Clinch. Also, there will be a kissing booth.

36th Dis. Day in Olympia with Kohl-Welles, Carlyle and Tarleton

What: The 36th Day event is an annual occasion where constituents may discuss concerns with their legislators, tour the Capitol and see the inner workings of state government.

Legislative assistants will welcome visitors and provide information at 9:30 a.m. The three district legislators will address the group from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. The room is available to visitors from 9 a.m. through 2 p.m. as a base camp during their overall visit.  read more »

Cupid 5K on Valentines Day will fight human trafficking

On Valentine’s day a 5k race through the streets of West Seattle will highlight and help fight human trafficking. Fetch Fitness, Starbucks Coffee, K2 Sports and ExOfficio are presenting the 1st annual Cupid 5K, a costumed urban race on Valentine's Night. The race will be run from 7:00 pm to 10:00 PM.

Money raised will go to the A21 Campaign, fighting sex trafficking & modern day slavery.  read more »
