Join us to keep this natural area a viable habitat for wildlife and beautiful resource for the community to enjoy. Volunteering is a great opportunity to make new friends while beautifying the neighborhood.

We supply the gloves, tools, water, warm beverages, light refreshments and safety for the area you are working in. Event takes place rain or shine, so please come prepared for weather. The work parties are appropriate for all ages.  read more »

Mend & Measure: Save money, save your favorite garment, consume less

Instructors Nicole Miller, owner of Blackbird and The Field House; Lauren Wang, product design at Blackbird; and Sue Weibler, Blackbird Candy Shoppe gal.

In the old U.S. Navy, sailors had one day a month called Mend & Measure where they were excused from their duties to launder and repair their clothes. Bring tattered socks or jeans, buttonless shirts or anything that needs a mend, and the Blackbird team will show how to, and help, repair those favorite duds. Attendees can bring mending supplies or share ones brought by the instructors.

Bike Maintenance and Preparation

Instructor Tyler Johnson raced bmx for eight years at a top competitive level and has been riding track bikes for three years. He considers himself an "all-around-love-to-ride-bikes guy." After working at a bike shop in Gig Harbor for a year, where he was a mechanic, combined with his history of riding, Tyler is knowledgeable in the repair and maintenance of bikes.  read more »

Wine of Piedmont, Italy: Culture and Tasting

Instructor Michael Teer is the owner of Pike and Western Wine Shop. Pike and Western has been in the Market for 35 years, and Michael has worked there since 1980 and owned it since 1991. While he loves wines from all around the world, the Piedmont region of Italy is special to him.

In this class attendees will be introduced to the grape varieties and wines from this beautiful northwest corner of Italy.

Seattle Chinese Garden Site Tour and Presentation on Chinese Gardens

See the 4.5-acre garden site, Song Mei Pavilion and early spring plants in bloom, construction progress on the first major courtyard, and plants native to China in the SSCC Arboretum. This guided tour begins with a slide presentation on the cultural significance of Chinese Gardens. Meet at the Chan Education Center. The program is FREE and does not require registration.

Admiral Adopt A Street Cleanup

The first Adopt-a-Street Cleanup of 2010 will be held this Saturday, February 27th, at 9am. We'll meet out in front of the coffee shop at Metropolitan Market - these folks have again graciously offered to provide a.m. refreshments for our volunteers.

I hope you can make it to this cleanup - it should be a fun time. Thank you so much for giving what you can to this neighborhood, and for taking the time to help it look its best!
