Owling Lincoln Park with Stewart

Due to popular demand I am scheduling my next owling adventure at Lincoln Park. We will start before sunset in hopes to get a peek at the resident Barred Owls with some daylight, and go into the night, looking and listening in hopes of some owl action in their prime activity time. While the owls can be finicky, and are never guaranteed, the wildflowers are just getting started and we will see and learn about a few of them by flashlight, and may examine any other plant, animal or fungus that piques anyone’s curiosity.  read more »

Colman Pool opening June 30

Colman will open late in 2012 due to a major construction project that has some summer work required to complete. The capital project will begin in winter and run until June 29. The pool will open to the public on Saturday, June 30 which is 5 weeks later than usual. The pool traditionally opens on Memorial Day weekend.

This capital project is a major investment in the future of Colman Pool… after 70 years the deck will be replaced and the entire gutter system redesigned. In addition, an underwater leak will be repaired and new plaster liner installed.

FREE Halloween Family Carnival and Swim at Southwest Community Center and Pool

It’s all FREE – with the carnival open to kids 12 and under 5-7 pm, teens 13-19 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Come dressed in your “scariest creative costume” – there’ll be prizes. And if you bring a few $, there’ll be concessions (hot dogs, nachos, more) to raise money for teen programs.

And in the middle of all this, it’s a Halloween Family Swim 7-8 pm, with games, a penny dive, and bobbing for apples. (Everyone under 18 has to have an adult in the water with them.) P.S. Teen volunteers are needed 4-7:30 pm for the kids’ carnival; sign up at the SW Teen Life Center.
