"Myrin" ("Jar City") is based on a best-selling novel by Icelandic crime fiction author Arnaldur Indridason. While a desperate young father tries to find out what led to the death of his 5-year-old daughter, Inspector Erlender investigates the death of an elderly loner in a run-down basement flat. The investigation takes an unexpected turn when forensic evidence leads him on a trail of hidden secrets of the past. The film is in Icelandic with English subtitles. 90 min.

Recycled Art Show Opening

The Ninth Annual Recycled Art Show kicks off during the Ballard Artwalk. Artists tap into the waste stream to craft stunning sculpture, mixed media and functional works of art. Artwork displayed at this juried exhibition is composed of at least 75 percent materials diverted from disposal. Get a first glimpse at selected art and enjoy a reception with the artists on opening night. The Recycled Art Show runs through May 5.

Matinee Movie: 'You Can't Take It With You'

A Frank Capra classic with an amazing cast, "You Can't Take it With You" won Best Picture in 1938 and tells a quirky story of love versus social class and property. This movie is a wonderful reminder of what is most important in life, and The Field House would like to welcome you to join us to be reminded of such things, have some fun, and maybe even grab a style tip or two from the old pros of the silver screen. Matinee Movie: 'Alone in the Wilderness'

Come celebrate the life of Dick Proenneke, as The Field House shows the first of more-to-come movies. Dick Proenneke retired at age 50 in 1967 and decided to build his own cabin on the shore of Twin Lakes. The first summer he scouted for the best cabin site, and cut and peeled the logs he would need for his cabin. Dick Proenneke returned the next summer to finish the cabin where he lived for over 30 years. Dick filmed his adventures, and Bob Swerer later turned the film into a video so we can all watch this amazing man build his cabin by hand. Free.

Age-Old Wet Felting Techniques

Instructor Ashley Helvey is a felt artist whose work has been exhibited in galleries across the country and in Germany. She earned her Arts degree at California State University, San Francisco. Most recently she has contributed to the Cooper Hewitt International Design Museum's exhibit Fashioning Felt as well as working with the cooperative Le Famn Veret in Verettes, Haiti to develop a line of felted objects to provide jobs for local women.  read more »
