Just another waist of money! why not put some self cleaning toilets along the route for the a.m. ferry traffic going into downtown. It's going to be gridlock.
I have looked at Fauntleroy Way on Google Maps, both street view and satellite view. It seems like a good plan. Fauntleroy Way already is two lanes with a center turning lane South of California Street. So it shouldn't be hard to get used to, in fact it's better to make it the same. I was going to say that maybe the street parking should be eliminated and replaced with a few municipal paring lots, but it looks like the area is too "built up".
If I may make a few additional comments: Teenage drivers tend to drive like every four lane road as if it's an Interstate, or a German Autobahn. I think most of you are adults now and you don't need the high-speed swerving and passing. There is no concrete median divider on Fauntleroy Way, it's not a divided highway and the speed limit is only 35, not 70. The current four-lane configuration invites deadly passing maneuvers and speeding.
In the future , there may be driverless cars which are guided by GPS. One experiment with driverless cars had magnets imbedded in the pavement, but I think that is obsolete , and any guide-way imbedded in the pavement would be in the form of RFID chips, which the cars will have scanners to read. Hopefully there will be standardization in the area of two-way GPS systems for cars. It would be nice if the GPS on my dashboard would emit a "ping" when another car approaches within 500 feet of my car, and a "buzz" when the other car is within 50 feet. Dashboard GPS devices have room for improvement, they could even alert the driver that the light up ahead around the bend is red, and suggest a speed , like 21MPH, which will bring the car to the light just as it turns green. That would mean less wear and tear on my brakes, and save petrol.
Okay, until then, drive safe. You might not be an idiot, but the guy in the other car might be.
