Adolph W. Young

Adolph W. Young, long time resident of West Seattle, passed away on September 8, 2006 in Seattle, WA. He was born in Anchorage Alaska on August 14, 1922. After high school he moved to Chicago, IL to attend the Sherwood School of Music where he met the love of his life Jean Brightwell. They married in Chicago on March 20, 1953. After Jean and Adolph graduated from the music school they moved to Seattle, WA where Adolph's father and two brothers resided. They settled in West Seattle and started their family.

Adolph worked for Boeing for thirty-five years as a shopkeeper. His passion, however, was music and he was an accomplished pianist with his wife by his side as an accomplished soloist. They taught music - piano and voice - for a number of years in their home and became very involved with Fairmont Congregational Church. (now Admiral Congregational United Church of Christ).

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed nature. Walking through nearby Lincoln Park or along Coleman beach was a favorite pastime. He was social in a quiet sort of way and all who met him have described him as "sweet, gentle, loving, funny" man. Always with a smile on his face and a joke to tell even through numerous health challenges, he did not feel sorry for himself. He will be missed by family and a large number of friends and community members.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, half brother and half sister and by his beloved wife Jean. His is survived by his two daughters Christy and Stephanie, son-in-laws David and Peter and grandchildren Lindsey and Garrett.

The family would like to thank Providence Mount St. Vincent and especially the staff of 5N for the excellent loving care they provided for Dad for the past three years. You became part of our family.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, September 13th at 2:00 p.m. at Admiral Congregational Church, 4320 SW Hill Street.
