Farrell J. Brown 1935 ~ 2013

Farrell passed away January 13, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away at home with his wife and son at his side.

Farrell was a professional mariner. He started at the age of 16 working for Washington State Ferries, later he worked for Black Ball Lines on the Kalakala.

He graduated from West Seattle High School and The University of Washington. He had several careers, but returned to his first love, the sea, and worked for the Alaska Marine Highway, becoming a Captain. After his retirement, he worked for Southeast Alaska Pilots, on cruise ships and cargo vessels.

He and his wife spent 20 years in SE Alaska, living on their boat and cruising the beautiful waters between Seattle and Alaska.

Farrell is survived by his wife, Susan; daughter, Lezlee (Tim) Brunson of Hawaii; son, Randall of Suquamish; granddaughter, Whitney Brunson of Hawaii; brother, Russell (Linda) of Virginia and several nieces and nephews.

He had a joyous and well traveled life. His sense of humor was a special gift and he maintained it to the end.

A service was held in Aberdeen on January 25th. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Seattle.

A special thanks goes to Virginia Mason Clinic and Hospital, especially Dr. Vincent Picozzi and Dr. Wayne Hwang who's special care gave Farrell several more years to enjoy life.
