The Great American Diner & Bar, a fixture of the West Seattle Junction since 2017, has announced it will be closing its doors at 4752 California Ave SW. as of June 30.

Owners Glen Quadros and Sarbjit Singh confirmed they are currently seeking a new location within West Seattle to house their business. Since its opening in July 2017, the diner became a local favorite for its diverse menu—spanning from breakfast and burgers to pizza and salads—and was particularly well-regarded for its high-value happy hour. During the pandemic, the restaurant became a vital community resource as a go-to spot for takeout.

In a significant blow to local drug trafficking, the Southwest Precinct Special Emphasis Team, aided by K9 Quinn, successfully dismantled a segment of a Drug Trafficking Organization on June 21st. The operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the removal of 11 pounds of illegal narcotics from the streets.

The high-stakes bust, which took place on Father’s Day, required a coordinated effort from numerous detectives and deputies across the agency. Officials highlighted the dedication of those who sacrificed their holiday to see the investigation through to a successful conclusion.

Mark Debenedetti was a man who lived his life as a testament to the power of unwavering faith and compassion. He passed away in early June.

He was honored in a celebration of life today at Trinity Church on 35th SW.

Known to many throughout Seattle as a dedicated evangelist, he became a fixture of the city by adopting a distinctive “Braveheart” persona, often seen on freeway bridges and street corners with his face painted blue, holding high his banners .

The roar of cannons echoed across the shoreline today as the Seafair Pirates completed their annual landing at Alki Beach, signaling the official start of West Seattle’s iconic summer festival. Despite tide conditions that required the pirates to arrive in two separate groups this year, the event successfully transformed the beach into a pirate-themed block party.

Atmosphere and Highlights

The landing was met with a chorus of "Arghhhs" from the crowd as spectators embraced the spirit of the day. Local resident Nancy, who attends every year, remarked that she and others "talk like a pirate all day" to celebrate the occasion. Among the attendees were local children Connor, Ebby, William, and Clarke, who participated by "racing the pirates" to the beach.

King County Local Services put on a show on Friday in the heart of White Center with multiple live World Cup games being shown on giant screens placed on the street. 

Even a little rain didn't dampen the spirits of those attending who participated in the fun by giving their best impression of the famous soccer celebratory shout, "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!"

Local businesses were open during the event giving people a chance to duck in out of the weather.
